Take the good old drive-in cinema and infuse that with Mzansi’s all time favourite, the street bash and you might just come close to the Kasi Movie Nights experience.
Kasi Movie Nights or KMN as it’s fondly known in the streets, is about taking cinema back to the people. Imagine sitting under the starry township skies, dogs barking at a distance as you get comfortable to snuggle on a cushy beanbag under a warm blanket, to watch an African produced film on the big screen. That’s what KMN is all about.
To kickstart the March KMN edition is the acclaimed star-studded ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’ documentary, featuring the likes of Black Coffee, Culoe De Song and Okmalumkoolkat, among other music greats. In partnership with Mzansi Bioscope, Gauteng Film Commission South Africa, Soweto Art & Craft Fair and the Soweto Theatre, this promises to be an amzing affair.
About the film: Future Sound of Mzansi
Acording to the ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’ website, the documentary aims to explore, express, and interrogate South Africa’s cultural landscape. “A chief vehicle of this exploration is electronic music, a staple of South African popular culture. The film explores the past, present and future of the scene and its multiple sub-genres, presented through the eyes of internationally acclaimed artist Spoek Mathambo”.
Screening Date: Saturday 7th of March at 8:30pm
Venue: Soweto Theatre, Jabulani Mall, Bolani street, Soweto.
KMN will form part of the evening session for the Soweto Art & Crafts Fair, which will begin at 11 am on Saturday.

- The first 50 people to get tickets get a free bucket of popcorn and a drink.
