This is a story about three friends who learn the hard way that when days are dark, friends will do whatever it takes to save their own skin. A young woman moves back home after an abusive fight with her live-in boyfriend and finds her father drinking with his two best friends. The three friends decide to abduct the abusive boyfriend and teach him a lesson. In the process of teaching him a lesson, the abusive boyfriend dies. Things spiral out of control from thereon.

Step aside love triangle – this is a love quadrangle, a situation that’s further complicated by the fact that at first, Busi doesn’t love any of these three men who are after her…or does she?

Kasi Movie Nights brings ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’ to Soweto

Take the good old drive-in cinema and infuse that with Mzansi’s all time favourite, the street bash and you might just come close to the Kasi Movie Nights experience.

Kasi Movie Nights or KMN as it’s fondly known in the streets, is about taking cinema back to the people. Imagine sitting under the starry township skies, dogs barking at a distance as you get comfortable to snuggle on a cushy beanbag under a warm blanket, to watch an African produced film on the big screen. That’s what KMN is all about.

To kickstart the March KMN edition is the acclaimed star-studded ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’ documentary, featuring the likes of Black Coffee, Culoe De Song and Okmalumkoolkat, among other music greats. In partnership with Mzansi Bioscope, Gauteng Film Commission South Africa, Soweto Art & Craft Fair and the Soweto Theatre, this promises to be an amzing affair.

About the film: Future Sound of Mzansi

Acording to the ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’ website, the documentary aims to explore, express, and interrogate South Africa’s cultural landscape. “A chief vehicle of this exploration is electronic music, a staple of South African popular culture. The film explores the past, present and future of the scene and its multiple sub-genres, presented through the eyes of internationally acclaimed artist Spoek Mathambo”.

Screening Date: Saturday 7th of March at 8:30pm
Venue: Soweto Theatre, Jabulani Mall, Bolani street, Soweto.

KMN will form part of the evening session for the Soweto Art & Crafts Fair, which will begin at 11 am on Saturday.

Tickets: R40 Pre-sold and R50 at the door. Pre-sold tickets are available here. Tickets are also available at Thesis Concept store in Mofolo Soweto.

Good to know:

  • The first 50 people to get tickets get a free bucket of popcorn and a drink.
  • Did we mention that Okmalumkoolkat will be there for a Q&A session after the screening? Yes, you can ask him anything you want to know about the film and about his music.
  • Make sure you get there early enjoy a heated performance by The Muffinz before the film.

Lokshin Bioskop: New Lokshin Bioskop Movies!

Since its’ 2012 launch, Mzansi Magic’s Lokshin Bioskop has grown fast as audiences embrace the stars and stories who have found a home in the ground-breaking local movie initiative.

In July, four brand new Lokshin Bioskop movies are coming to Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) and will be screened every Saturday at 19:00.

First up is THE CONTRACT (July 4) starring Dambuza Nqumashe, Bongiwe Lunga and Thandeka Mdeliswa. The movie follows Bra V, a man who has put out a ‘contract’ on himself. Then, on the eve of his death during his band’s reunion concert, he unexpectedly rediscovers the will to live when a young singer jumps onto stage during the performance. Now, with the killers in the crowd, Bra V must find an exit clause to stay alive.

Next, audiences must tune in for MEN DIE HERE (July 11) – when Dambuza Nqumashe returns to Mzansi Magic this time alongside Andrew Stock and Phikolomzi Magongoma. In this fascinating courtroom drama, a man pleads guilty to the shooting of another but argues that it was not murder since the victim planned the entire scheme including providing the weapon that killed him.Now the jury must decide whether there is such a thing as “murder by consent.”

The following week, on July 18, make a date to see SUGAR AND SPICE which features the talents of Masego Jacobs, Khanyie Langa and Refilwe Mofokeng. Set in Alexandra, the movie revolves around three underprivileged young girls who are all high school dropouts. They begin to date wealthy older men who give them lavish lives but there’s a surprise in store for the trio.

And rounding off the month, viewers can see Dineo Nchabeleng, Lebohang Inno and Lizwi Vilakazi in THE PORTRAITS (July 25). In the movie, Papi is released from a 5-year prison stint after being acquitted of all charges in a rape case. His return home puts the lives of his family and friends to the ultimate test as they must all come to terms with the past and what lies ahead.

So get ready for more Lokshin Bioskop entertainment, first on Mzansi Magic!
